School Tours

Touring has been a part of the St. Michael’s Choir School tradition since the first concert outside of Toronto, an overnight junket to Ottawa in 1946. Tours began to take boys to international destinations in 1967. Tours large and small have built relationships between the Choir School and parishes all over the world, but the principles of touring remain the same: respect, excellence and “an experience of music for the praise of God in Jesus Christ”. The concept of tours by the Choir School led Monsignor Peter Somerville to say that they served to bind the group together by giving the boys an ambition to achieve excellence in their music in settings other than St. Michael’s Cathedral. Monsignor Somerville also felt that the tours, whether within or outside Canada, helped to put the School “on the map” in a way that had not been possible before, even though it was recognized for the excellence of its liturgical work in the Cathedral.
